Session Topics

Sessions will be structured in part around topics suggested by contributed papers. Suitable topics include the following:

  • Graphical or probabilistic analyses of evidence and inference
  • Statistical and econometric proof in competition law (antitrust)
  • Statistical experts; ethical and practical aspects of expert witnesses and consultants
  • Criminology
  • Damage assessment
  • Discrimination litigation
  • Environmental regulations and legislation
  • Epidemiology and toxicology in judicial and administrative proceedings
  • Inferential issues surrounding crime scene reconstruction
  • The nature and logic of forensic investigation
  • Judge and jury comprehension of statistical evidence
  • Offender profiling
  • Parentage testing
  • Biometrics; pattern recognition (including fingerprints)
  • Handwriting comparisons
  • Voice recognition
  • Human and nonhuman DNA identification

In addition to sessions for the presentation of papers and invited panels, proposals for posters to be displayed in poster sessions also are welcome.

Please note that the topics listed above are suggestive rather than exhaustive. We encourage the introduction of new topics in forensic statistics.
